Dolomite is a mineral whose chemical composition is calcium and magnesium carbonate (chemical formula is CaMg(CO3)2, calcium magnesium carbonate). The crystal of dolomite is a carbonate mineral of the trigonal crystal system. The crystal structure of dolomite is similar to that of calcite, and its crystal form is rhombohedral. The dolomite crystal plane is often bent into a saddle shape, and lamellar twin crystals are common, mostly in the form of massive or granular aggregates. Pure dolomite is white, and sometimes turns gray-green, gray-yellow, pink and other colors due to the presence of other elements and impurities. Dolomite is a glassy luster.
Dolomite can be used in building materials, ceramics, glass and refractory materials, chemical industry, agriculture, environmental protection, energy saving and other fields. Dolomite is mainly used as alkaline refractory materials and flux in blast furnace ironmaking. Dolomite produces calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, magnesium sulfate, and ingredients for glass and ceramics.
