What is the difference between crushing and grinding?

In quarry or mining industry, crushing and grinding are usually used for making stones or rocks into smaller size or even powder size. However, there are lots differences between crushing and grinding, and each progress need different machines.

The progress of processing large stones or rocks into smaller size (mainly granularity size) is called crushing. The final granularity size mainly varies from 1 mm to 50 mm. A stone crusher machine is needed when crushing something. There are many stone crusher types, for instance, jaw crusher, cone crusher, impact crusher, hammer crusher, roller crusher, diesel engine crusher, mobile crushing plant etc. Those crushers can meet all kinds of produce requirements: large or small capacity, even large or small output size.

The progress of processing powder size is called grinding. The final powder size can reach from 0.5 mm to 0.005 mm. There are also several grinding mill machine: Raymond mill, High pressure grinding mill, and Micro powder grinding mill etc. However, in most case, a small crusher is needed in the grinding mill machine. The crusher is used for crushing the raw material into smaller size, which is more convenient to grinding into super fine size.
